The Integrity Institute is producing the “NZ Lobbying and Influence Register” to assist the public in scrutinising elite political participants. The register details the political activities and influence of companies, lobbying firms, and interest groups, ethos-wise, as “sunlight is the best disinfectant” against corruption and the outsized influence of vested interests.
In the absence of a mandatory register for entities involved in lobbying and influencing the political process in New Zealand, The Integrity Institute is creating its own “unofficial” version. We are attempting to research and piece together information about many different entities in our watchdog role of scrutinising and challenging vested interests, especially wealthy individuals and entities.
The Register is meant to be a living repository of constantly updated and improved information. To do this, we will be partly reliant on crowdsourced information. Our first entries are just drafts, which will naturally contain information that still needs to be verified and tested. The information has been researched with the help of artificial intelligence, and any errors from this process will naturally need fixing. We hope the public, or even the entities listed, will contact us with corrections or further information.
The register entries below are just the first batch of drafts. More will appear regularly.
If you have further information for the register or suggested corrections and improvements, please either leave a comment at the end or email, in confidence: bryce@democracyproject.nz
