Banks in New Zealand have some of the most powerful lobbyists, and we are currently witnessing an illuminating example of how they get their way, with the Government introducing retrospective legislation this week to help two big banks stymie a class action lawsuit from its customers.

I thought national were better than this. I would expect it from labour because most of those ministers were too lazy to do their own research so just did what the consultants told them to. But national? Another disappointing outcome.
It's disgusting. As you point out, no wonder there has been a profound drop in trust of government generally with this sort of carry on. New Zealand has lost its way & it comes from the top.
