I respect the author's personal leanings, but the overly sectarian tone of his article is disturbing. I think New Zealanders should get rid of the debate between left and right and focus the discussion on how to make this country more tolerant and harmonious. If the two extremes of left and right continue to fight against each other, New Zealand will become the second South Africa. This is by no means alarmist!

I see Labour has drifted so far to the left that they look conservative, not liberal, while they continue to make mediocrity the goal, and excellence is to be avoided, as it could look like mediocrity-shaming. The coalition has taken over centre NZ , where people want the young NZer of the year to get there by merit and achievement, not just by queerness.
